Welcome to Kokunkokun, a graphic site and personal blog run by Kate. Like similar sites, Kokunkokun offers its visitors the typical graphics expected today, such as 100x100 avatars, wallpapers, and various layouts. Unlike many similar sites, Kate welcomes requests and submissions. In other words, this site is for YOU! Tell me what you'd like to see and I'll do it. This includes requesting specific graphics for you or your site, like avatars or layouts. While Kokunkokun is compatible with most current browsers at resolutions of 800x600+, it is recommended that it be viewed in Mozilla Firefox at a resolution of 1024x768 or higher.

Version 14: Crazy New Year

I really fell in love with the simplicity of last month's layout, so I tried to do something similar again this month. I lvoe Tukiji Nao's art, too, especially this image, so I'm happy I found a way to work it in to the layout. The original image can be found at Anime Artbooks, with a brush from Aethereality, a texture from Sanami276, and the font Stereofidelic from Dafont.com.

Yes, I have great news. One, there are now seven people signed up for the collaboration! Hopefully I'll get at least three more, but more than three people would be even better [hint hint]! Two, I received some new awards from Brittany at No Such Thing as the second place winner and fan favorite in the Pocky Layout Contest. Hurray me! One of my prizes was also a new 468x60 link banner, which you can view on the link page. It's very pretty. Third, there are two people signed up for the February SOTM! Yay! Speaking of SOTM, I joined Deadly Nightshade's SOTM as well. I don't really expect to win like I did back in September [because that layout was killer and I know that really plays a huge part in voting], but my joined contests page was looking a little pathetic, so I figured why not. Finally, someone finally guessed the new character! Hurray to Ai at Deadly Nightshade! I was getting desperate, haha. Hopefully more people will figure it out, but if another week goes by without anyone guessing, I'll just let the name of the series slip and then it will only be a matter of choosing one of four main characters.

Lately I've been going nuts with plugging my site on various plugboards, and I think it's helping. I'm seeing a huge jump in my visitor numbers. Hurray! Hopefully some of my new visitors also have sites--or at least play around with Photoshop--and will start to get interested in some of the contests, etc., that are happening here. Keep your fingers crossed! Maybe I'll try again with the Girls with Guns and Color Scheme Contests sometime in the future. I was very disappointed that no one showed any interest in either. Well, actually that's not true. Some people said they'd join, but then never sent me their entries, even though they had banners up on their sites. Boo. Oh well.

Before I forget, Amalia tagged me, so I'll apparently need to list four facts and one lie about myself, and you'll all have to guess which is the lie...furthermore, I tag Yuko, Brittany, and Amy. You three will also have to tag three people. Enjoy!

  1. I don't sleep in a bed when I stay with my mom because there aren't enough to go around.
  2. I don't like coffee but sometimes I drink it anyway.
  3. I usually only see my best friend once a month.
  4. I don't see the appeal in JPop/JRock/etc. music.
  5. Next semester I will be taking a ton of classes to graduate on time.

So good luck to you in figuring out which one of those is true. I was tempted to put some other facts, but it would have been too easy since I have them listed on one of my table layouts as a demonstration for how the lists look.

That's pretty much all I've got for now. The "win an award" page will be up soon, though. Also, any affiliates or link exchanges who missed my new year's gift and would like it, drop me a line in a comment, on the tagboard, or in an email. Finally, the plugboard has finally filled up, so keep checking back because plugs will start getting pushed off and you'll be able to replug your site! Ready for Sushi

[Edit] Yay! I'm now up to four participants in the collaboration, but it won't be very exciting with only two teams, will it? You should really think about joining. Actually, you should really just join. That's pretty much my only news. That and I went to the bookstore before getting sushi today and got volume one of Princess Ai. I haven't read it yet, but it looks pretty good. I read both volumes of Solanin today, also. It's really quite amazing. You can find it on Manga Fox if you'd like to check it out. That's quickly becoming one of my favorite sites, haha. I found an excellent but rather creepy manhwa called Chronicles of the Grim Pedlar. You should totally check it out. I read somewhere that the scanlation had been dropped, but I'm not sure if that meant at Manga Fox as well. I hope not. I really love the story. Anyway, that is all. Join a contest or two here, okay? I'll try and make this quick, because my sister and I are sneaking out for sushi in about forty-five minutes. Let's see, what has been updated at Kokunkokun...well, I remembered to put up a banner for the VDX, and I finally got the information up for the new contest [you can check it out here]. I pruned my rotations section for various reasons, including not being added to the rotation in a timely fashion and just some problems with the rotation codes. I also updated the SOTM, so make sure you join! So far all of my SOTM contests have been really small...like only one or two people have joined, which is lame and unexciting, so join! I added some more gifts to my collection, which you can check out in my awards and gifts section. No one has even attempted to guess the new character--still!--so I've added a third hint. Really now, at least give it a try, folks!

I'm still holding on to a small hope that the rest of my contests will be successful, so make sure you join, alright? So far I've only had two people sign up for the collaboration, and only one other person is showing any interest in the VDX. Don't let me down guys, okay? And while I'm on the topic of contests, how often do you visit AnimeShare? Do you know right now there is a contest going on to design their February 2009 layout? It sounds like a good time--I'm not joining, though, because I'm sponsoring prizes--so if you think you can design a good layout, give it a shot!
